Enschede is full of hotspots and fun events, also for kids! So it's high time for some tips for a weekend in Enschede with kids!
Weekend to Enschede with kids
A weekend in Enschede with kids? Do it! I am telling you in this blog where to go. From kid-friendly hotspots to indoor and outdoor playgrounds... Enschede is also a party for kids.
Spending the night with children in Enschede
When you go away for the weekend, of course you want to spend te night in a nice place. Whether you're staying right in the center, or want to wake up quietly in the countryside, in Enschede you have both within easy reach. For example, go for a family room in a comfortable hotel like the InterCity Hotel Enschede or Van der Valk Exclusief Enschede? Of course, there are also cozy bed & breakfasts, such as Oekepoek in the cozy Walstraat. Here is a complete overview of places to stay in Enschede.
Shoppen for kids in Enschede
Fancy a day of shopping? And if you have kids who like it too (lucky you), Enschede is the place to be. At the H.J. van Heekplein you will find most of the large stores. Think Zara, Mango, H&M, Hema, WE Fashion, Prénatal and Primark. Name It can also be found here in De Klanderij. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, a large goods market is held on the van Heekplein. This makes for lively activity, often including a carousel and balloon clown.
At Toff Kidswear on the Van Loenshof you shop among others Tommy Hilfiger, Vingino and McGregor. In Zuiderhagen you will find concept store Wonder & Melon, where you will find trendy children's clothing brands such as Bobo Choses, Lil' Atelier and Sproet and Sprout. On Langestraat is Sissy-Boy, where you shop downstairs for the kids while they chill in one of the hanging chairs.
Toy stores
Of course you can also take your offspring to a nice toy store. In the city center you can visit Intertoys, Hema, Søstrene Grene and Flying Tiger, among others. At Dille & Kamille and Boekhandel Broekhuis you will find the most beautiful picture books.
Lunch with your child
All that shopping makes you hungry, time for a nice lunch! On the Oude Markt you will find plenty of restaurants, cafes and places to go out. Sam Sam is a great place to have lunch with kids. The food is good and there are toys to play with. At Bardot, your child can play in the extensive play corner while you yourself enjoy the French atmosphere (including a courtyard garden).
There are also plenty of trendy lunches in the surrounding streets. A household name among Enschede is Stoet, located in the Library. Everything here is designed for parents with (young) children, which makes it very relaxing to have lunch here with your child. De Broodbode is great place to sit with kids, as is the 100% vegan eatery ETN. From experience I can say that the new Frank & Charlie is also very nice and good to do with kids.
Just outside the center you will also find some kid-friendly gems. In the H.J. van Heekpark you settle down at Schenkerij Wattez.
Culture with kids
Culture can also be enjoyed with children. The synagogue of Enschede, for example, is wonderful to visit together. Curious about the story of the city? Then take a city walk in Enschede. That way you will discover more about the city's history, buildings and hidden gems. For child-friendly art exhibitions you can visit De Museumfabriek, Concordia and Tetem. Enough choice!
Especially De Museumfabriek is great for kids. They can also get to work here. There are also regular special theater performances for kids 2 years and older at Het Wilminktheater in Enschede, an overview of all cultural outings for kids can be found on Find it.
Having dinner with your child in Enschede
Looking for inspiration for a nice restaurant to eat out with kids? Then lunch hotspots Bardot and Sam Sam mentioned above are also open in the evening. Have you heard of restaurant Happy Italy? Ideal with kids! The food is served quickly and there is a play corner.
Within walking distance of the center you can visit the Twentsche Foodhal. Here you can get food from different food trucks and the kids play in the play corner. At the vegetarian Het Paradijs you dine in a surrealistic courtyard. Very cool for kids. Eat pancakes at Mister Pancake or Le Pompidou, both outside the center. Got a little cowboy in the house? Ribhouse Texas in Boekelo is the place to be. Extra nice is that you can just throw the peanut shells on the ground here.
Getaway with the kids
Do the kids need to expend their energy? At indoor playground Monkey Town, FunZone en Ballorig you have come to the right place. Another great tip is Bounce Valley, an airpark (mega-large air cushion) where you can really go wild.
Enschede has three cinemas where you can watch a fun children's movie.
I think I am one of the few parents who enjoys swimming with the kids. Do you like this too? Then you can go to Zwemparadijs Aquadrome. On the website you can see when the recreational pool and toddler garden are open, often there are extended opening hours during school vacations.
