Van Haag tot Wal Festival
Do you want to discover cultural Enschede at surprising locations in the centre of the city?
Stories from the past and present come to life at this festival. At both well-known and hidden locations in the city center, theater makers, musicians, and artists will introduce you to these stories. During the festival, you can visit these site-specific performances, mini-concerts, and pop-up exhibitions for free.
The stories include, for example, the gritty center of Enschede in the 1970s and 1980s, when street fights were a daily occurrence. Or tales of a grand hotel that once stood in the city center. And get to know the colorful residents from past and present. There is a long list of beautiful stories about the city center.
The festival's name refers to both the past and the present. Enschede was never surrounded by walls but had hedges and ramparts, which still exist today, not physically, but in the names of authentic streets like Zuiderhagen, Noorderhagen, and Walstraat. You can find the festival locations in these streets, as well as in the other lanes of the circular historic street pattern.
