Landgoed Zonnebeek
Estate Zonnebeek is located north of the Buurserzand overlooking the heathland of the Usselerveld.
Zonnebeek is the name of a country house and associated estate.
The park layout comes from P.H. Wattez and is in landscape style inspired by American examples. Within it, an orchard/garden/flower garden was created around 1908, enclosed by walls and hedges. The garden was restored in 1972.
Between 1906 and 1907, the house was built by design for J.B. van Heek and his American wife Edwina van Heek - Burr Ewing. The property under a hipped roof is said to have been designed after the example of a country house in Nashville where Burr Ewing came from. Some elements of the design have become regular features in the (neo)classicist design style of the Beltman firm. Also on the grounds are a 1906 coach house cum service house and lodge (house numbers 112-114) and a tea dome.
The villa is not open for viewing. Except for the park surrounding the villa, the estate is open to the public.
