Lonnekerberg is the southern part of the Enschede-Oldenzaal lateral moraine complex.

Lonnekerberg is a nature reserve in Overijssel with an area of 141 hectares. Initially, the hill was covered with heathland and was grazed by sheep. At the end of the 19th century, the textile manufacturer Albert Jan Blijdenstein planted the hill with conifers. Blijdenstein had gained possession of the hill by purchasing land from several farmers. The ridges (raised nursery beds) for the purpose of planting the young conifers had a total length of 320 kilometers. Blijdenstein had himself buried on the hill after his death. Some of his family followed suit.

In old Twente legends it is told that on the Lonnekerberg white women would have lived.

Lonnekerberg estate is ideally suited for hikers and cyclists. There are many beautiful hiking and biking routes that visit the area on and around Lonnekerberg.
