Museum Buurtspoorweg
Also join us on an unforgettable train journey through the past.
A trip to Museum Buurtspoorweg is a real experience for old and young.
Go back in time
As soon as you enter, you’re transported to earlier times and experience the special stories of local railroads in a vivid way. Station Master Laponder immediately draws you into the fascinating world of local railroads and tells you what to expect during your visit. You’ll be introduced to a unique collection of railroad equipment, children will discover all the museum’s secrets during a scavenger hunt with Jack the station cat, and, as the icing on the cake, you’ll take an unforgettable steam train ride.
You can depart from either station (Haaksbergen or Boekelo). These stations are connected by a stretch of local railroad that brings to life an important part of Twente's industrial development. Passionate volunteers maintain the special museum collection and bring the story to life during your visit.
Special events and activities
Outside the regular riding days, Museum Buurtspoorweg also organizes a variety of events and activities throughout the year. Check the calendar for a list of all special activities.
Boekelo
At the railroad crossing in Boekelo is a small building where you can buy a ticket from the stationmaster of Boekelo on driving days. He shows you the way to the museum depot, where most of the locomotives and wagons that still need to be restored are located. For children, they have set up a wagon especially with play areas and there are several large model railroads.
Railcard, Family card and Museum card
A ticket for a museum visit including a steam train ride is valid as a day ticket again starting this season. So you no longer have to book for a specific time slot, but can take as many steam train rides as you want on the day of your visit with the same ticket. Besides the regular tickets, Museum Buurtspoorweg also has a platform card for a museum visit without a train ride and a family card, valid for up to 5 people. Museum Card holders still visit our museum for free. All information about riding days, events and entrance fees can be found on the website.
Dining in a steam train
The Museum Buurtspoorweg and restaurant 't Lansink have joined forces. You can go on a culinary ride in a moving train from Haaksbergen to Boekelo and back, while driving through the beautiful Twente coulisse landscape.
