The University of Twente, or UT for short, has been the university for technical and social sciences in Enschede since 1961.
The university is located between Hengelo and Enschede on the former Drienerlo estate. It is the only university in the Netherlands with a campus: staff and student housing, sports and cultural facilities, shops and all faculty buildings are all on one site.
Currently, around 9,000 students study at UT and 3,300 staff members are employed. UT cooperates with the other technical universities in the Netherlands through the 4TU federation.
